Google Broad Core Update Rollout June 2021

Google Broad Core update rolled out on June 2, 2021, at 6.30 pm ET.

They were supposed to pack a lot of changes in one core update but couldn’t get it this time. The update will continue in July with its second part.

The SEO community did not notice any drastic changes in their ranking and feel both the updates do not directly deal with current google rankings.

Like every update, Google says that webmasters do not have to worry about the fluctuations they see.

Don’t panic if you see a negative impact and don’t be quick to celebrate if you see a positive impact.

The core updates are never site specific. Their only aim is to improve broad search results for the user.

More on the June 2021 Google Core Update

GMB Removes the Short Name Feature

The purpose of Google My Business Short names was to make it easier for businesses to collect reviews without being spammy. The feature was added in 2019 to make it easier for customers to find the business.

The update doesn’t affect your current URLs. And if you still want to continue using short URLs, you can take the help of link shortener tools.

Change in the Core Web Vital Metrics

  • First Contentful Paint (FCP) increased from 1.0 to 1.8 seconds. FCP is when the browser renders first feedback to the user that the page is loading.
  • Google wants you to manually remove the unnatural links associated with the website. Just disavowing the link may not be enough according to Google.
  • Google Expanded the Favicons for Search help
  • Google may automatically add location extensions to your Paid Google Ads

What’s the Difference Between a Core Update and the Regular Update?

Google rolls our minor updates almost every day. But many updates are focused on improving specific categories.

The core update differs because it focuses on broad improvements across google search.

The core update happens only a few times per year, but it affects the way Google ranks the content.

To the webmasters who get affected by the Core updates, Google says it’s not because they did something wrong, It’s due to changes in how Google evaluates content based on evolving customer expectations. It’s a sign that what was considered relevant before may not be relevant as per today’s customer behavior.

That’s why refreshing your existing content can really do wonders for your Website.

Conclusion

This is one of the rarest occasions where Google is rolling out a core update in two phases. It’s difficult to tell how will these impact search rankings and web traffic.

So instead of reacting to the changes due to the June 21 update, look ahead to the next month and update your site o be its best version possible.
